Is Effective Cleaning and Protecting the Environment Important to You?

Is Ozone Water Effective at Killing Germs and Is It Physically and Environmentally Safe?

By Al Liceaga MD. July 2017

Questions: I asked some questions on what can we use to sanitize our hands or surfaces and are the currently available cleaning agents that we use safe. Is Ozonated Water a Non-Toxic and Green option ? Does O3 Kills Germs in seconds and is O3 Water currently available as a continually supply at my sink?   Further, what about Ozone Safety and is Ozone a Green method of killing dangerous germs?

Let’s look into this.

What about Chlorine ? Definitely Not Green! What about hand washing with Gels? Gels are expensive, ineffective and kill less germs, leave residual on skin, irritating on hands, gels are costly, gel dispensers run out of gel and gels dry out.  Not Green!

Think about Ozone Water ! According to the US EPA Office of Water, Ozone is one of nature’s most powerful anti-microbial agents. It has been found that O3 kills microbes in seconds. O3 is a highly effective surface disinfectant and that with regular use; it can greatly reduce dangerous Bio-film. O3 also prevents the development of Bio-film in sinks and drains.

What is Ozone ?   Ozone (O3) is a molecule of three oxygen atoms, while the oxygen molecule (O2) that we breathe is two oxygen atoms. Ozone water can be produced at your sink by an ingenious under-sink device that safely creates the Ozone at about 1 part per million in the tap water that comes out freshly.

Ozone safely decomposes into oxygen (O2) and Ozone does not affect pH of the water. The food industry and American cities have used it for decades as a powerful oxidant for sanitizing purposes.  Ozone is produced freshly and cannot be stored. Ozone can kill microbial pathogens in seconds.   Ozone oxidizes organic substance, eg. pesticides, organic odors and Ozone metal contaminants.

Supply: O3 Water Supply is available with current faucet technology. We found a faucet system by Sanitas® (See AquosHygiene.com), where the O3 water is delivered out at tap water pressure, fresh and ready to use. At an affordable price!

Safe: Yes, Ozone (O3 water) is declared Safe and Effective by FDA since 1991.  It is not the same as the Ozone in smog or in the upper atmosphere, not at all.

Ozone is generally considered Safe at Ozone Concentrations below 5 PPM. The Aquos Ozone Faucet by Sanitas® is programmed to deliver 0.8 – 1.4 ppm, well in the safety zone. Aqueous O3 overspill produced is well below EPA safety standards. After 20-30 minutes You can actually drink the water that is essentially sterile. Ozone Water is Effective and Environmentally Safe.  Aqueous O3 changes back to pure water in 20 minutes … leaving no harmful residue! Nothing but pure H2O and Oxygen remains and No Toxins remain on a surface or down the drain!

I believe that O3 is the Practical and Safe Solution to the need for a Healthy, Clean and Green medical environment.

Infection Control and the Practice of Medicine

Is Controlling The Risk Of Illness Important To Your Medical Practice ? Can Ozone Water Help Minimize Infection Risks ?

By Al Liceaga MD.
I have been watching the news and reading publications that focus on the failure of infection control in health care. Patient’s become ill and some have died. This greatly concerns me, how about you? I wear several hats in my healthcare practice. I function as a doctor, administrator, accountant, businessman, marketer, and yes, even “cook and bottle washer”. I know a little bit of everything and do a lot of just about everything.
Here are my greatest concerns: I have been watching the news and reading publications that focus on infection control in health care. The news reports have alerted us about real problems with sanitation and disinfection of our instruments and devices as well as the problems with sanitation our local medical environment. Patient’s become ill and some have died. This greatly concerns me, how about you? I read about infection risks with endoscopy and the facilities inability to adequately clean and disinfect scopes. I read about Hospitals closing due to fungal infection in their sinks. I read about a medication compounding laboratory having fungus in Depomedrol; people died. I read about MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staph Aureus) reaching havoc throughout our nation. I read about CDC Infection Estimates where millions get sick, tens of thousands are hospitalized and thousands die from infections every year. It’s all too much to bear!
Questions: I then I asked myself what would happen if infections began to plague my own practice. How do I feel about the infections hurting my patients ? What does it cost to settle a Lawsuit ? What effect does it have on our Insurance cost ? What is the cost of Adverse Public Opinion ? If the public knows that a practice has an infection history, why would they come to it? How do I eliminate the infection problem? How do I Control the Risk of Illness in my Practice ?
Start at the basics! I chose to minimize the risks of such catastrophes my practice ! Think Illness Prevention at each point of risk. We focused on hands and medical surfaces. I realized that Hygienic Hands are the most important factor in preventing the spread of pathogens and in reducing the incidence of healthcare associated nosocomial infections. We instituted staff observation studies and developed a strict rule of adherence to proper hand wash techniques. We then focused on medical surfaces in the surgical and medical suites. We realized that water alone cannot remove all contaminants, such as oils, fats and microorganisms. Soap and water physically removes particulates, soil and organic material and reduces microbial contamination on surfaces, but it remained incomplete and alone, ineffective.
Solution: We Added Ozonated Water ! Ozone is one of nature’s most powerful antimicrobial agents. The literature has found that Ozone exposure kills most pathogens in seconds. We tested it in our center.

Infection control is now a minimal problem at our medical center.

Ozone Faucet System
We found that aqueous O3 can reduce Bioload up to 97%. Clean hands are important in reducing cross contamination and risk of nosocomial infection. Our Medical Surfaces are now clean since we do a regular surface cleaning regimen with soapy O3 water. We found an affordable ozone system at AquosHygiene.com.
Going Forward: We believe that by our adding of ozonated water to a best-performed wash regimen that we have markedly reduced contaminants on hands and most surfaces. We will continue to monitor our methods. We will continue to wash in a hygienic way as much as possible. We will continue to care about the well-being or patients. Will you ?
